UKVDL Services and Conditions

(As of August 9th, 2013)

  1. A $10 accession fee will be assessed for all cases except:
    1. Regulatory cases
    2. Cases assigned to Clinical Pathology and Toxicology only
  2. A diagnostic case is defined as specimens submitted to VDL for diagnostic purposes on one or more animals from one owner and residing at one premise. A complete history is requested to help our faculty and staff to provide the best diagnostic services for you and your client.
  3. A regulatory case is defined as specimens submitted to fulfill legal requirements for the movement of animals (e.g. import/export, interstate) and in support of state and federal surveillance, control and eradication efforts. The $10 accession fee will not apply to these cases (e.g. EIA, Piroplasmosis). The submitter must fill out regulatory forms completely and specimens clearly labeled with the animal’s id/name.
  4. A necropsy case includes cases where the client has submitted an animal that has died for a complete necropsy and ancillary testing to determine the cause of death. The price on our fee schedule for a necropsy is the total price for the case. However, a maximum of $200 of toxicological testing will be allowed on these cases. This cap may be waived by the Director or Associate Director on special cases. Any testing associated with a legal case will be billed in total (i.e. no capping).
  5. All samples submitted to the VDL become the property of the laboratory unless agreed to by written agreement prior to submission.
  6. The VDL does not provide euthanasia services. We reserve the right to not accept live animals to assure the safety of our employees. Please arrange for euthanasia before submission to VDL for a necropsy.
  7. Non-necropsy diagnostic cases will be billed a per test charge for all tests. A “non-necropsy” case is any case submitted to VDL that does not involve a necropsy.
  8. Out-of-state submissions will be billed at 150% of In-State fees, except where noted in our fee schedule. Toxicology tests are priced the same either In-State or Out-of-State. Animals residing on premises in Kentucky will be billed at the In-State rate.
  9. Specimens referred to another laboratory will be assessed a $40 handling fee.
  10. A fee of $25 will be assessed on packages that are leaking upon arrival at the laboratory.
  11. The submitting veterinarian will be billed for all VDL services. Owners may submit animals for necropsy with the approval of their veterinarian. In this instance, owners must pay for services at the time of specimen delivery. Payment cannot be accepted on Sundays. The UKVDL Receiving Section will contact the client for payment the week following services.
  12. Services are billed monthly and payment is due upon receipt. The VDL reserves the right to inactivate accounts when payment for services is not received in a timely manner.
