This test is for Sarcocystis neurona only. | 1 working day. Test is performed Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. | This is an antibody test for presumptive antemortem diagnosis of EPM and only detects S. neurona in serum or CSF. Greater than 70% of horses in the eastern USA have been exposed to S. neurona. Therefore, EPM diagnosis should only be made after all other neurological conditions have been ruled out. EPM test results should be interpreted based on the clinical signs and other laboratory test results, but a negative result usually rules out EPM. Detection of antibodies in CSF along with serum could be more informative.
